Dr. Karen DeCocker, a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner at Stella, will address the critical topic of removing the stigma surrounding mental health, both personally and professionally, in today's society. She will trace the evolution of mental health perceptions from times when it was shrouded in secrecy and shame to the more open dialogues of the present day. Karen will highlight the significant strides made in understanding and supporting mental health issues, acknowledging the efforts of advocates and professionals who have paved the way. However, she will emphasize that despite this progress, stigma persists, often hindering individuals from seeking the help they need.

Karen will propose actionable steps to further dismantle these barriers, including education, fostering environments that prioritize mental well-being and addressing mental health with the same importance and respect as physical health.
